My ex father and mother-in-law, Martin and Elizabeth Smith, were relief managers for M&B and ran the pub for a while when the Angels used it. From stories told they never had any bother in there, and because Liz was small one of the Lads used to come in and on seeing her he would pick her up and cuddle her. Martin told us that they were a great bunch of lads and if anyone did start to play up or give them grief they were asked to leave by the lads. I believe this must have been in the early 80s before a permanent licensee took over.

Unfortunately both Liz and Martin have passed now, Martin only two years ago.
